My 19 year old cat has for many years been very fussy re food. She was often not want to eat at all. The vet prescribed Mirtazapine tablets. Unfortunately getting her to take tablets is also quite a challenge. This product is the same medication but in ointment form. You just rub a tiny amount inside the ear edge. Within a couple of hours, she is much perkier and ravenous. We have been using this for the last few years - it just works. Expensive, but works and is trouble free to use. Our vet is unable to provide it, but will write a prescription for it. A tiny tube lasts a couple of months or more

My cat is 16 and has kidney disease. She has lost over a third of her bodyweight (1.6 kilo) in the last year or so and whilst always picky, she has no interest in food. She is particularly disinterested in renal food. We resorted to Mirataz at the vets but they only supply tablet form. We had to pay for a prescription, and the ear cream , even with a reduction at Viovet, is not cheap. So a very expensive medication that also has an extremely short shelf life once opened. But... it has helped. After having the cream applied to her ear she usually gets hungry quite quickly. She still walks away from renal food given the chance, but we persevere. After the 14 day application she has gained half a kilo back but we finish the course and I am concerned she will go backwards. She was also ravenous during first few applications, less so after a week. So I don't see this as a long term solution but certainly a boost and chance to build a little weight. How long...who knows at present. But it is worth it to see her looking healthier.

Perfect for cats who need a boost with their appetite and sooo easy to use. If all pet medications came in a simple to administer ointment life would be a lot less of a hassle when it comes to medicating your cat. One day maybe…

My cat refused to eat anything other than chicken but this wasn’t helping her to gain weight so we refused her chicken which then meant we couldn’t give her insulin. We bought this and now she loves food again. Not sure how it works but she enjoys eating so much again.

My cat was extremely skinny and had diabetes to which we could not administer insulin if she did not eat. This became a daily struggle and the only thing she wouldn’t refuse to eat was plain chicken which of course was not beneficial to her putting on weight. We tried the tablet version of this product after taking my cat to the vet but they did nothing but after using this product for 1 day we saw an improvement in my cat and then after 2 days she was enjoying her food again, we just hope this carries on once we are at the 14 day mark.

Can I please have some basic information about this product please
Mirataz is an appetite stimulant medication, it is not for treating hyperthyroidism. You may be thinking of Methimazole Transdermal gel? Unfortunately we cannot stock this, only your prescribing vet can.
